How To Hack a 12 Volt Battery!
By Tal Siach on August 29th, 2007, in How to and Hacks Add a comment

This can save you a lot of money!
Have you ever needed a 1.5v battery for your alarm clock, laser pointer, calculators etc.? Instead of buying expensive batteries in Walmart or Best Buy, you can easily save around $40 by simply hacking an A23 12v battery.
The video below explains a step by step how to turn the 12v battery into eight small 1.5v batteries.

*Update: From what we have heard this hack works better with Duracell or Energizer batteries. To avoid any danger it is recommended to use the small batteries for appliances with a low energy consumption. Do not use the batteries on expensive devices since there is a risk of leakage that would damage the device and your health.

Wow…. since I was a kid I thought these small batteries are expensive. I guess that changed now :-)

Thanks for the tip… It’s one of those things nobody knows.

    Hi Connie,
It happened to me too! Every time when you need 1.5v batteries you can’t find them around the house and they are expensive in the stores.
This tip amazed all of us too!
    Thanks for the comment,
    Tal

This is amazing. Does this really work? And is it the same with all brands of batteries? Don’t some of them have some dangerous life-threatening chemo-sh*t inside of them? Wow … this would be the coolest trick ever if this really works …!

Hello Alfonso, this definitely works! Although some precautions need to be taken. From what we have heard it would be better to use Energizer or Duracell batteries (Some problems have been noted with Vinnic brand batteries). To avoid any danger it is recommended to use the small batteries for appliances with low energy consumption (alarm clock, remote control, flashlight etc.). Do not use the batteries on expensive devices (e.g. MP3 Player) since there is a risk of leakage that would damage the device and your health.
Thank you for your comment,I updated the post. Thanks,
    Tal
