Premeditated disposability

Individuals repeatedly state that ‘we live in a disposable society’,'I throw away my products the moment they start failing on me’, and some even mention that ‘with new technologies coming out, products become obsolete in a matter of months’. The above statements respectively illustrate that products are less reliable, and while warranty coverage decreases, complexity and fear of new technologies increases.
Do we truly believe that this trend is in the benefit of the consumer?
