iPhone Ringtones in iTunes, for free?

1 Comment By Eran Abramson on September 10th, 2007 in iPhone

Ringtones in iTunes have a file extension of M4R. You can change any AAC file to M4R, and it will now be a ringtone that will be added on the next sync to your iPhone. Easy to turn your music into ringtones for free. There is even a tutorial including pictures at oubipaws. If you have already upgraded to version 7.4.1, then Engadget mentions to first rename to M4R file, play it in iTunes, then rename it back to M4A. This will work for now, until a new iTunes version is released.

Is this legal? Engadget helps answer that in the post: “Know Your Rights: Is it illegal to make my own ringtones?
