Washing Machine Technology: One Wash One Cup of Water

1 Comment By Eran Abramson on June 10th, 2008 in Consumer Electronics

With all the energy saving solutions for our daily used appliances, Leeds University came up with one that would save the use of water and energy when washing our clothes. Their “Xeros” named washer will use only one cup of water for each load of laundry.

When doing your load of laundry, in addition to one cup of water, many tiny plastic chips are added for the procedure. As water is heated to dissolve the dirt, the plastic chips absorb it. At the end of the wash, the chips are removed, but may be used for up to 100 times.

Seems simple right? Their diagram illustrates so as well.
