Nintendo Controller Coffee Table for Geeks

by Tal Siach on May 12, 2008 in Fun StuffAdd a Comment

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) may be old and gone, but the love and cult following of avid fans goes on.

We run across many different modification of the famous Nintendo video game console, and there are none as beautiful as this NES controller coffee table.

nes_coffee_table_2

Not only is this a great art piece for your living room for daily use and presentation, but it is also an actually functional video game controller. Now, it may not be as easy or convenient as the original NES controllers, but you cannot argue that you do not want one in your home.

By the way, it also opens up to store all your favorite Nintendo memorabilia without taking extra space. Sounds like a total winner to me.

You can watch a video of the NES controller mod right below.

Geeks Rock Out Hotel California on Guitar Keyboards

by Eran Abramson on May 1, 2008 in Fun StuffAdd a Comment

I am not sure if this is real or keyboard syncing, but I was entertained.

Some students at Georgia Tech have decided to use computer keyboards in place of guitars. The keys each represent different notes, and these guys are rocking out to Hotel California of the Eagles.

It is somewhat similar to playing the piano on a keyboard, but these guys are playing both the lead and rhythm guitars using merely keyboards, and the solo work is not bad at all either.

I am wondering, if they are so good at playing their keyboards, wouldn’t it be easier to actually learn how to play a real guitar? To create the software, learn the keys, rehearse the notes and music, and in the end perform it up to par seems like a job which is a lot more difficult.

Heck, this may be a fake.

What do you think? Are the keyboards actually in tune as guitars, or are they simply playing air guitar to background music with a keyboard in their hands?

Anyways, the video below has some rocking keyboard guitar in the beginning, then goes off to some miscellaneous stuff. At least watch the beginning so you could tell me if you think it is real.

Lenovo ThinkPad X300 Parody of the Macbook Air

by Eran Abramson on April 30, 2008 in Fun StuffComments (1)

The MacBook Air looks great, and its size is very attractive and appealing, but is it enough? Lenovo doesn’t think so.

This parody of the MacBook Air is short but to the point. Simple Spoiler: It presents the Apple notebook with its major weaknesses, which is simply that it has nothing in it. It goes on to present the new Lenovo ThinkPad X300 claiming that “We don’t add stuff on. We build it in.”

After you watch, let us know if the commercial has done its job.

Word Clocks Spells Out the Time For You with Text

by Eran Abramson on April 24, 2008 in Fun StuffAdd a Comment

word_clock_1

Are you looking for an easy way to tell the time? Would you like a design clock that has an innovative hour display, without the numbers or digits?

The Word clock is a perfect concept that simply writes the time down for you. Its display spells out the current time within its array of 150 scrambled analog hands.

Furthermore, the hour which is spelled out is found where its location would be on a regular analog clock. You can see the examples above for the hours of three and also four once the previous hour comes to a close.

The Christiaan Postma design may be just concept at the moment, but would you prefer your wall clock to show you the time, or spell it out for you? Also, if this ever gets made, would the minutes be included?

Nintendo Mario Brothers Theme using a Remote Control Car and Wine Bottles

by Eran Abramson on April 18, 2008 in Fun StuffComments (2)

I am a big Mario Brothers Fan, so when I run across the infamous theme song played using a Remote Control car, I have to check it out.

In the past, we found the great theme song played using actual Electical Tesla coils, which was simply amazing. Now this version with RC toys, is a must see.

I am not certain if this is fake or a true masterpiece. Either way, the creativity is wonderful, and it proves that Mario Brothers continue to live on.

Check it out, embrace the nostalgia feel, and let us know if you think it is fake or true musical art.

A Flying Lawnmower: I Believe I Can Fly

by Eran Abramson on April 3, 2008 in Fun StuffComments (2)

A Flying Lawnmower…say what?

You cannot watch this and not get a smile on your face; it is so entertaining.

Whenever anyone mentions a lawnmower, I tend to get a little down. I begin to think of chores, sweating in the sun, and having to do a task which I do not enjoy…mowing the lawn.

As a kid, I have always looked forward to mow the lawn, but as I grew up, I began to look at it as a tedious task; it is repetitive, boring, and we are just going to have to do it again in a little while.

This video brings the lawnmower to a different level…I mean c’mon, it is flying! Ok, it is made with special effects and can be done using any simple computer application, but it is so fun. You cannot say that it is not inspiring.

The video is a little old, but is still great for sharing.

Literally Skate on Two Wheels with the Orbit Wheel Skates

by Eran Abramson on April 2, 2008 in Fun StuffComments (2)

Orbit Wheels

The Orbit Wheel Skates are literally two separate wheels that allow you to skate around independently.

They seem really fun to move around with if you are a natural and confident of your balance, but for me, I am not certain I would be able to carry on for a long time.

The video below is a great demonstration of these awesome skates and illustrates how your feet are provided independence of each other.

After you watch, let us know if you would be willing to try these on, or would rather just watch your friends attempt so.

A Viper Snake Sculpture is Created using Qwerty Keyboard Keys

by Eran Abramson on April 1, 2008 in Fun StuffAdd a Comment

This snake may be large, but is completely harmless.

As a recycling awareness piece, Korean artist Choi Jung Hyun created a Viper Snake sculpture. For the setting and presentation, more than a few computer mice have been added, who have had their wires cut short and resemble tails.

This May Be The Only Solution For Microsoft Vista

by Eran Abramson on March 27, 2008 in Fun StuffComments (1)

I am one of the fortunate few that still uses Windows XP Operating System.

I have never had to downgrade, for I simply never upgraded or purchased a notebook already pre-installed with Windows Vista.

Based on what the negative opinions and videos of Windows users, it may simply be one of the worst operating systems ever brought out by the wonderful Microsoft.

If you are looking for a Vista solution, the one below may be a quick and easy one. The only downfall is the expensive house window replacement. But then again, based on Vista user’s feedback…it may be worth it.

A Steve Jobs Collage Made Completely Out of Apple Products

by Eran Abramson on March 26, 2008 in Fun StuffComments (3)

This is a really great looking collage of the infamous Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

The cool thing is that it is made completely out of Apple products, such as: Macs, laptops, iPods, iPhones, Apple software, and more.

It may have been easily created with the mosaic screen saver in Leopard OS, but it is the thought and creativity that counts.

You can see a larger image of the collage by clicking on the picture.
