It is a well known fact that Google never stops to rest and always tries to make Internet a more orderly place, and this time around, Google Labs have unveiled the Google Social Search, a new experimental approach to searching the web.

It is a way of searching wherein along with the regular web results, you would also get results from your friends’ blogs, feeds and pages. These friends are extracted through your Google Profile or sometimes through people you are following on twitter, FriendFeed and other social networking sites where you may need to use your Gmail address.

Moreover, all the people in your Gmail address book would be added too, and thus in order to avail this service you need to be logged on to Google accounts at the time of browsing. You could switch this option off too, or enable it for a more personalized search. An example is searching for flowers in London, and you may get a blog maintained by a colleague in London about flowers there.

The idea is to bring results that are more relevant to you, than bombarding you with search results that have no relevance whatsoever in your personal life. It may be an interesting approach but if you don’t like it you can always do the regular Google Search without the Social Search. Google Chrome 3.0 is now available as a Beta version, with a few new features including speed, customization and Google Themes for Internet users to change and make their own.

Google Chrome hasn’t been out for as long as Firefox and IE, but it is advancing quickly, catching up with its rivals and improving with each new update. Although there aren’t too many new additions to this newest Chrome version, they are helpful, and those familiar with the Google Browser would probably be happy about the enhancements.

Google Chrome 3.0 is Now Available with New Features

Hexagon was recently launched, creating a social community for BitTorrent downloads where users may create public and private groups, discuss content and moderate details and information.

The makers of Isohunt have decided to create Hexagon in order to get users who share content to have more moderation and a better way to interact with others like them. The new Hexagon grants users the ability to also embed Youtube and Blip content, and categorizes content by available web recommendation of Freebase. The latter aims towards semantic web results, thus both allowing Internet users to find what they are looking and eventually be a ground for recommendations from other web services.

Unlike regular Tottent sites, Hexagon grants users the ability to create groups as they deem to, and make them open to the public or by invite only, granting users the freedom to select who they share specific content with. Moreover, by having the option to start discussions on specific content, categories and even embed videos, new users and veteran downloaders can further explain content, receive feedback and know ahead of time if what they are going to download is truly what it is they are seeking.

As in BitTorrent privacy, Hexagon explains that by having the feature of a private group also gives users the option to provide content but remain invisible to non members. This will definitely be a sweet spot for those that do not want to be known, want to remain on the down low and would rather just seed anonymously. In other words, enhanced privacy and staying away from the spotlight without copyright owners coming down on you.

This has been available before in different ways, but with Hexagon Torrent community, anyone can create a group and remain invisible to those they are have not invited and allowed within their groups.

Moreover, this same Privacy and group invites can also be deemed as a fan base situation. For example, if an up and coming band, an independent film maker or even a game developer would like to spread some promos, clips or game demos to its loyal fans only, it is now a lot easier for any newcomer to create its own group in Hexagon.

At the moment, Hexagon is in private beta but many invites have been available at TorrentFreak since Hexagon was launched.

Facebook Lite, the quicker, simpler and lighter interface of Facebook, has just opened its access to users in the US and India, and from what it seems…people are going to be happy with the Facebook Lite alternative for a quicker response.

New Facebook Lite as explained by Facebook itself is:

a faster, simpler way to keep in touch with your friends. If you like it, you may choose to use it instead of the regular Facebook…

Since it has just been launched, there isn’t too much information except what it was aimed to do. Facebook Lite provides a cleaner and simpler interface that is not as crowded as to what we are used to every day when logging in to the regular Facebook. In addition, since it doesn’t load EVERYTHING you have installed and keeps just necesseties: Profile, Events, Inbox and the “choice” to view Top Stories, updates are in real time.

All your applications and different games are not included in Facebook Lite, which also add to the speedy response of the interface.

For those that go onto Facebook to play, socialize and everything else besides just keeping in touch, Facebook Lite may not be the greatest alternative. But for those that want a quick, clean, and responsive interface without all the clutter, Facebook Lite could come in handy.

Unfortunately, Facebook Lite is brand new, so bugs may occur and they are open to ideas. As they mention:

…We still have work to do before it’s done, but we’d love to get your feedback on what we’ve built so far.

Facebook Lite is only available in the US and India for now, so if you are not there, you still have to wait to try it out.

Facebook Lite Launched in US and India

It seems that Facebook may have presented a new vulnaribilty with a new possible Facebook virus which is enacted with the Facebook Fan Check Application. Although it is not fully confirmed yet, and no word has been heard from Facebook, more than a few have reported issues after the installation of this App.

The Facebook Fan Check Application is aimed to show the number of friends you have and allow you to post so as an RSS within your account, thus updating with every new friend you acquire. At the moment, this application states that it is “adding new features and new capacity”, including informing that doing so “could take a few days”.

Once the Fan Check App is installed, your Facebook account will be infected, including sending so as a virus to your Facebook friends – Some have already mentioned that their account email and password was changed.

Although no official confirmation has been made regarding the Facebook Fan Check Virus, caution should be exercised: So don’t Install this App just yet!; we wouldn’t want you to lose access to your Facebook account or hurt your circle of friends in any way.

There was a time when chatting was all about logging into one of those yahoo chat rooms or trying out various rooms on MIRC enabled rooms, and we have come a long way from then, moving on to an era which is dominated by social networking and social media. With most social network sites emphasizing on the need for comments, interactions between known friends and those with similar tastes, chatting with strangers had taken a backseat.

Here is a cool new website called the AnybodyOutThere, which is being touted as a new communication platform to provide users with instant and relevant response to their thoughts and questions. The site connects the user to people with similar states of mind, and not similar tastes in life. For example, when you are feeling down in the dumps, all you would need to do is, just say that in the text box and their secret software brings the most relevant people to chat with.

Thanks to their secret algorithm, you would no longer have to search for an interesting mate in crowded chat rooms. There also would be no more pointless conversations which start with “asl”. All you would need to do is type what is on your mind and get a person with similar ideas and taste right on your screen. Just like most modern websites, AnybodyOutThere comes with an easy to use interface and looks very simple and clean.

The new chat service might actually change the way we communicate, but its success depends on how well the site can attract users. When I tried using the site, and typed “Tonight is boring” there really were a few relevant chat requests, and not too many! So, it does work and is quite fun too, as you would get to speak to people who closely match your state of mind. It just might not be yet-another-social-network on the scene! The latest application to hit smartphones is Waze, which is being touted as the Way to Go as it is a social media smartphone app allowing drivers to passively send GPS trace points to others in the community; thus helping other drivers not only receive information about the location and road maps, but also help fix problems and other such problems for others.

The driver’s speed is relayed to Waze servers and depending on the speed, the quality of traffic is judged. If the traffic is clogged, then that information could be given to other users. Waze takes social media to the next level: to driving. It allows the driver to reveal hazards, traffic jams, map errors and other such issues directly to the Waze community. Using GPS for smart phones had never been such fun!

If you run into roads that are not in the map, they just get added for you and others in the Waze community to use later. You could also visit their website and edit the maps if you think something can be modified. These facilities would certainly help the user to ascertain driving conditions, receive live help and support from the community, and also a sense of belonging to the community.

However, at the moment you can only use Waze in San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago and Boston. This limits the potential of an otherwise amazing service. Nevertheless, the lucky ones who stay in these areas can send road tweets, learn routes, search for alternative routes and make driving an enjoyable experience. Waze has a huge potential to grow especially if it can be used in rural areas and also on national highways. However, one may need to be under Internet coverage for this to work.

Waze Combines the Utilities of Social Media and GPS for the Benefit of Drivers

Facebook has changed the way we connect with people and friends, and having one’s identity secured on Facebook has become mandatory for personal and official reasons online. Until now, Facebook users have been annoyed with the fact that one would not got a unique url and instead would be assigned a number like “id=897652074″. The numbers are not only difficult to remember but also look dirty if you wanted to give your unique Facebook profile address to people.

All that will change come June 13th. Facebook will now provide user ids that will also act as your url. Hence, instead of a long url with the weird and annoying number, you would have a clean and chic looking url just like Twitter or MySpace. Your url would have the same privacy settings and you can decide who views your profile as you already could on Facebook. You can choose your username and url on a first-come first serve basis by visiting Facebook.

If you already have a Facebook account, the Facebook guys have already put up a notice on everyone’s home page about the instructions. The option would be made available from 12:01 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 13. Once you choose a name, you won’t be able to change it and hence you better be careful and sure enough. I guess Facebook finally realized the need for unique URLs which were already available on 9other social networking sites. I would say, it is about time!
