Giant 72-inch 3D Display Developed by NICT and Victor
3 Comments By Uzair on October 6th, 2008 in Consumer ElectronicsNow this is what I like to call a true Viewing Experience! We all know that 3D display of movies and photos needs a special set of Glasses specifically made to make things look three dimensional. All that is going to change now as Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and Victor Company of Japan Ltd have jointly developed a 72-inch 3D display that doesn’t need you to wear any weird glasses to experience the 3D effect of Movies and Photos. Thanks to this Technology, you can watch 3D movies using naked eye alone.
The giant display has a high resolution of 1920 x 1080p, allowing users to view 3D images corresponding to the horizontal angle from which it is watched, that is, within ±20° to right and left. The Massive Display is put for display (no pun intended) at the CEATEC Japan 2008 and NICT is planning to produce the 3D Display commercially by 2011.
The 3D display uses multiple projectors to enable the 3D representation of images and Videos. The projectors, each having a resolution of 1920 x 1080p (full HD) and a pixel count of 100 million or higher in total, project the images on the screen from the back enabling to look like 3D from various, but limited, number of angles. “The light emitted from the screen is controlled so that it looks similar to the light reflected off of real objects”. NICT says that it is possible to make a 200 to 300 inch 3D display which can be viewed using naked eye with this technology.
